other thread where you posted your same question.
In general please do not cross post, albeit this is sort of minor, you added this same comment to someone else's discussion.
Recommend you try some distributions, perhaps
Mint,
Ubuntu,
Suse,
Arch, or
Slackware. And try them as Live boot from a DVD or USB stick, or if this laptop is already running Linux or another OS, then try
VirtualBox where you can run the distribution as a virtual machine and try it out to see how you like it.
I'm assuming you are looking for desktop style distributions, however if you are looking for something different, you should let people know so they can offer some additional advice.
