Linux and $ sign

Hi,
i have a little Problem with the $ sign... How can i comment it out to use it as normal sign?
For example : nslookup ws$signum
here it would only look for ws becaus the variable $signum is empty...

So i cant change the name of the targethost and it includes a $ but how can the bash know when to look
for an variable or when to use it as normal character???

I know you probably want a straight answer to this, but I'm not gonna give you one.

Do a google on: Unix "special characters" and learn all you need to know.

try nslookup 'ws$signum'
or nslookup `ws$signum`

cant remember wich one right now

Or you can probably use the escape character '\' like so

nslookup ws\$signum

ah now i got the problem...
my fault is that the network query wich is incoming is blah$blah and i dont have the possibility to change it to blah\$blah or `blah$blah` the linux machine would do it the right way with these comments but the windows machines ask the "wrong" way....
