linux-2.6.8.1 question

When i rebuild what will be the name of the file for the new Kernel and what directory will it be in.

It depends on which rpm based distro you are using.
In Opensuse, the compiled rpm will end up in /usr/src/packages/RPMS
In RedHat, I think in will be in /usr/src/redhat/RPMS.
Other RedHat based distros such as Fedora and CentOS will be something similar.
I have no idea about Mandriva or other rpm distros except to say that the compiled rpm will be somewhere in /usr/src.

You will find out the file name when you find it in /usr/src/..../RPMS.

I am using fendora 12

Unless you specifically want a tailored kernel, you needn't build. Just install the binary rpms from the Fedora repository.

if you rebuild the kernel it will be the version you build . dua.

there is nothing called "fendora linux-2.6.8.1 "

and you said it was fedora 12 ?? odd because the current kernel in fedora 12 is 2.6.33

version 2.6.8 is from 2004 6 years ago ?????? "ChangeLog-2.6.8 14-Aug-2004 06:02 "

SO AGAIN WHAT disrto ARE YOU USING because it is NOT FEDORA 12 !

I'm an old-timer but naive and becoming suspicious of this post. Is fendora a repeated and honest misspell? How could someone with your obvious limited experience with programming expect to build a kernel?

Explain please.
