i don't know much about suse but from what errors u get i think you should reinstall your X11 fonts then try startx. if everything goes okay you can do the things i suggested above.

on second note, what is "miscunscaled"? is it a font file? check it out.

May be you should post your video card and other hardware configuration ?

I don't think that the error displayed is the real problem. Look in the /var/log/xorg.0.log. The reason it failed should be given there.

Also, you can run sax and yast in the console.
