You haven't given enough information to expect any help. Post some information on your computer hardware, how old, RAM, graphics,etc..
It would be useful if you indicated which Linux distribution you are now trying to use. It is also very helpful to post what actual messages or errors you get.

I'm not sure this would have worked but, you probably just needed to type "startx" at the root prompt you had earlier.

ACER ASPIRE AS5742ZG-P623G32.
CPU INTEL PENTIUM DUAL-CORE P6200, 2.13 GHz RAM 3 GB DDR3 HDD 320GB SATA 5400 RPM VIDEO NVIDIA GEFORCE 610M 1GB DVD RW SUPERMULTI DL.
About the error messages there are tons of em and it is smth like this :
"EXT2-fs (sda1): error : ext2_lookup: deleted indone referenced: 6587245"

"EXT2-fs (sda1): error : ext2_lookup: deleted indone referenced: 16842773"
and so on i can rewrite all of em if you want to but that is basicly it.
About the startx i should have used that earlyer before those wierd errors started to show it would probably worked out but now kind of not working.

I'd boot from any live CD (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCD, etc) and
1. check hard drive for errors
2. if this not help, install another linux without formatting home partition (if home is on separate partition)
