LinPopUp doesnt work

I've installed Linpopup to send message to windows user in network. The problem is , everytime i try to send message, it says hostname unreachable. Is there something need to enable before using it?

since my linux is standard, i want to remove certain un-needed program that loaded during boot. I want to increase speed and reduce memory use. What program can be removed and how to remove it?

I'm using redhat 9.0.

Thank you in advance

I'm sorry, i don't have the answer to your question. I have the same problem with linpopup. I can send messages with "smbclient -M destination_host" but i can't send or receive messages trough LinPopup. My question to you isone is if you succeded making linpopup working, and i you did, if you can "share" the solution to me. I imagine that in 2 months you tried some tricks, and you could make me gain some time, so i can focus on the nice things.
Thanks

Hey

Had the same probs with LinPopUp..Couldnt send and receive messages..

Im running MDK10, so i installed linpopup using the following RPM --> LinPopUp-1.2.0-3mdk.i586.rpm

So get linpopup to send messages i did this -->
In linpopup go to Edit-->Preferences-->Samba Settings TAB-->Arguments (Optional)
Add "-A" in the textfield for the Arguments.
WHY? --> linpopup uses the smb client to send messages. Remember when ya send messages using smbclient ya have have to specify the hostname ya sending to (-A). So the same applies to linpop..ya have to tell linpopup to use -A. This is so because in linpopup when ya specify "send to", this is the destination host, and this is the argument for -A. Thats all i hadto change to get it to send..

To get it to receive messages -->
In /etc/samba/smb.conf file, ya have to uncomment or add the "message command" line.
NOTE:linpopup will be installed as either "linpopup' OR "LinPopUp", its CASE SENSITIVE! So ensure that the "message command" line corresponds..
Linpopup has to berunning for it to POPUP the messagereceived..otherwise it'll just be cache and the next time ya open linpopup..the messaged will be in the window...

Hope this helps..PLEASE let me know if this helped or not..I also had headaches setting it up and i wanna help ya guys get it up and running too.
