linksys wireless on redhat 8.0
i just put 8.0 on my system and im trying to get my wireless working. the card isnt in the options off the menu... very confused could use help.
thanks much |
what kind of card is it? you need to provide some information here in order for someone to help you out...
|
it is a linksys wireless pci card (WMP11)
thanks, is there any other info you might need? |
That is a good start.
You will need to go to the AVS website (do a web-search on wlan-ng) and download their software to your machine Follow their instructions to get the software compiled/installed on your machine You will need to modify some of the scripts on your machine to get the card to activate on start-up...you can search this site using your device name (WMP11) to get some pointers Good luck...we're all routing for you... |
what is the url for the website?
what software am i to download? if i download the software on the win partition of my machine how will i use it on the linux partition? thanks |
ftp.linux-wlan.org/pub/linux-wlan-ng is the location of the software.
You should use the 0.1.16-pre6 version, it is the most recent The software is very compact--you can download it in Winbloze and copy it onto a 3 1/2" diskette and copy it to your Linux partition. Keep us posted... |
hey, i managed to do that, but when i run it it asks for 'linux source directory' it defaults to /usr/src/linux
1) the directory isnt there 2) /usr/src/redhat is but it doesnt work.... so the program errors out when i get to that step any ideas? |
You should find a directory like:
/usr/src/linux/2.4.18-whatever point to that directory as your source directory instead of /usr/src/linux Try again! Good luck... john |
thanks for all the help btw, but
no such luck... what is the file im looking for? |
You are not looking for a file, rather, you are looking for a directory called
usr/src/linux-(version number here) it may be slightly different.... if you have a directory called /usr/src but nothing with a name that begins with "linux" inside the /usr/src folder, you may need to install the kernel package--consult your documentation for RH8 on how to do that--mine isn't handy right now... |
