Links bug in Etch, ok in Sarge

I just set up a new Etch machine (Athlon 64 X2 with Gigabyte MB running the i686 kernel) and find that the Links web browser behaves oddly: The URL dialogue does not display correctly; it looks like text has wrapped around, along with the highlighting, overwriting some of itself. I use Links on my Sarge system, and everything works perfectly, always. Is the problem known? Is there a fix? Is it a problem in Etch or in Links? The problem also occurred about 6 months ago with an earlier installation of Etch on a completely different machine (Pentium 2); at the time, I just deleted Etch and reinstalled Sarge.

Thanks in advance.

Jeff

If you think it's a bug, you should file a bug report.

You mean: Links?

"URL Dialog"??

Do you mean the highlighted URL bar at the bottom of the screen in this screenshot?

Why don't you try to find out?

There seem to be a lot of old outstanding bugs in links - probably part of links being beta code. However, this one seems not to be amongst them.

Seeing as how the most recent report is over a year old... perhaps you will be more comfortable with w3m or lynx?

Links problem in etch

The problem is not in rendering pages, but in the dialog that comes up when typing "g" or after starting links without a URL. I use links in Sarge and on BSD and find it incredibly reliable and robust; I have never had any problems with it. It is, in fact, my favorite text-mode browser. The same goes for Sarge-- super-stable, problem-free, and confidence inspiring (at least for the software I use, which includes gcc/g++/f77, text editors, several browsers including Dillo and Firefox from backports, Java, OpenOffice, Octave, and IB-TWS). The first time I ever had a problem with links (and some of the other aforementioned packages as well) was on Etch. Since this has occurred on at least two different Etch installations (6 months or more apart), I would think that someone would have noticed the problem with links, perhaps even provided a fix. I have not bothered installing the old version of links on the Etch system, but I can give it a try; the problem is that I will probably need to install many of the old system libraries as well, making it hard to determine exactly where the problem lies without investing a lot of time, something I do not currently have. I googled for the problem and could not find anything, hence my post on this forum. Hopefully such problems will be fixed, and I can feel as good about Etch as I do about Sarge.
