Linking 2 LINUX based PCs

Hi everyone, i am new to Linux. After I had installed the Ubuntu 8.04, i tried to link 2 LINUX based lappie via the wireless and the LAN network. I'd searched some of the related command but most is just around playing with local configurations. How i connect 2 LINUX based PC 2gether? Any nice references? Thanks for the guidance.:newbie:

What? first off what is your network topology? (what is on your home network and how is it set up.) Do both computers have access to the Internet?

What are you exactly trying to accomplish? Do you have an ethernet/wireless router and you're trying to connect to it with the pcs? Or you already have that figured out, and by "connect the pcs together" you mean file sharing?
If that is so, here's a good read:
http://nfs.sourceforge.net/nfs-howto

Or something more to the point:

Either way, google is your friend.

well, just a normal wired and wireless connection between the server and the client via cable and the wireless router. Thanks guys for the help. I will look at it. Thanks again

that doesn't say anything. is it wired or wireless? is it:

Pc 1 --> router --> Pc 2?

do they both have Internet access? what kind of router? Does it give out IP Addresses via DHCP? we can't help you unless you tell us what you have and how it's all hooked up.

em..yes....
2 LINUX based PCs are just connected via cable ONLY, one act as the server and another as the client without connected to the internet. While for the wireless, both connected via a modem and a router, i need to connect both the PCs internally and yet both also connected wirelessly via the internet.

Well to connect 2 computers directly you will probibly need a crossover cable, but if they both connect to the same wireless router then they are allready on the same network. there is no need to connect them with a wire if they are allready on the same network. try this: pop open a terminal window and type 'ifconfig' this will give you a bunch of information including the computers IP Address do this on both Linux computers and then see if they can ping eachother.
