Line Input Device with ac97 chipset on DamnSmallLinux

Hi There
Apologies first of all, I'm a bit new to all this and am stumped from the beginning.
I'm trying to produce audio streams on a box running DSL with an ac97 chipset (it's an EPIA mini ITX board). I'm trying to take the sound card line input but am having no joy trying to find out what device it's configured as. Is there any quick way of finding out? I've got Mplayer working so I know the soundcard is live and happy.
Also I'm using real producer basic, is this a good choice for a single 192k stream or does enyone have any other recommendations?
Thanks a million
