LILO Woe
<Sigh> After two days of struggling, I've finally made my system dual boot with Windows XP and Linux(Slackware). First, I needed to change my second HD to be the first one inside BIOS (my box just can't handle MBR, so I use Root). For some strange reasons, the liloconf I got keep creating wrong lilo.conf. Say I added a Linux partition, I got a line something like "boot = proc", but I had typed "/dev/sdb1" for God sake!
When I tried to edit liloconfig, I discovered that there are two lilo.conf--one locate at ./etc, another one is inside /mnt/etc(I mount the linux partition after DVD booting the system). What is the different between these two? After I finished editing, I ran lilo and it seems used the one at ./etc. Time to install Oracle. I heard that there is some issues regarding Slackware distribution and Oracle. Hopefully, it'll all work out... |
If you do a "ls -l", one is probably a simlink to the other.
At least thats what grub does. |
My bad. That was actually a copy of the original I made since command 'lilo' assumes the directory is always in ./etc, not the current directory(/mnt/etc). My question is, when I booted from the Slackware DVD, where are the directories(/bin,/boot,/mnt...etc) I saw without mounting Linux partition located (the same hard drive, or ram)?

I didn't think you could boot a CD from lilo, go fig.
I think the CDs put all their boot and whatnot in ramdisk. not positive though. |
