lilo timeout too fast

Lilo boots to the default OS after a short time. I wanted to set it so that it would wait indefinitely for me to select an OS, and I foolishly set the timeout to "0". Now lilo boots immedatey to XP, and I have no idea how to get to the config file to fix this.

How can I

(1) reconfigure lilo's timeout when I cant get into linux (Mandrake 10) -- I'm clueless what to do with the rescue cd. Neither the "restore boot loader" or the "reinstall boot loader" have any effect, since they don't overwrite the lilo.conf file.

(2) set lilo to wait indefinitely for me to select an OS?

You could possibly edit the config file from XP. I know there are tools for ext2 filesystems for windows(explore2fs), but i don't know how safe they are. You could also boot into knoppix and do the same thing, or tomsrtbt if you're comfortable with it. I'm not sure how to make it wait indefinitely, but you could just set it to an unrealistically large number.

Dont you have a linux bootdisk, not tot worry, open a linux cd in windows. Theres a folder called image or something, look for a program called rawrite. open rawrite and write a small image on a floppy, this will allow you to boot back into linux, and make your changes to lilo.conf
