LILO problem after disk removal
Hi,
I removed an old disk drive from my PC (dual boot Win2k/Linux). Being used to Windows (sorry), I thought everything would come back after booting the pc. Nope! All I got from LILO was: L 04 04 04 04 04... etc. The disk I removed was just being used for the Windows swap file (it didn't have a linux partition). I know the simple solution to this would be to put the drive back, but that's not the point! Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening? How I might fix it? Thanks! |
to remove lilo
bootwith a win98 CD at the prompt fdisk /mbr or with a win2000 or win XP CD run fixmbr in recovery console regards |
Thanks, but I don't want to remove LILO - I just want it to work again!

ok
boot from ur 1st CD go to rescue mode and there u can reinstall lilo regards |
If using Slack as it says in your profile, you can just boot into your system using the first installation CD, the instructions are on the first screen you see when the system boots from the CD (it won't take you long to boot into your system). If you have upgraded your kernel you may get some error messages about modules, just diregard them. Login to a terminal as root and do /sbin/lilo then reboot.
