Groteque Ridiculous Ugly name for a Boot loader.
GRand Unified Bootloader - a newer bootloader the GNU folks wrote because LILO wasn't Invented Here. (And, in all honesty, it had limitations it's since overcome.) Either one will boot your box.

It's GRUB program. It's equivalent to LILO. Are you able to boot up correctly or there are problems?

Something's wrong, then. (I mean, aside from not being able to boot.) Slack defaults to LILO, so either something's *really* screwed up or you accidentally chose GRUB when you installed. Might want to try again or wait for a GRUB expert - I've never used it; LILO works for me.

You mean you got LILO and *it* doesn't work, or tried to install it and *that* doesn't work? I mean, is it just GRUB failing, or both? And what happens when it does fail?
And actually, *is* it failing? Pure blank screen but for a word or is there a prompt? Maybe just need to hit enter or login or pass an option if you can. I dunno - I'm heading out, but try to post up some specifics on your hardware, install method, and exact errors and I'm sure someone can help you out. Good luck!

I had this problem with my one server, I tried installing red hat on it to try it out, and grub loaded into the MBR. I wan not very happy with RH (slacker for life) so i went back to try and installing slack on my system, and low and behold, it keeped doing this to me, I actually started using a boot floppy for a while anyways, where are you trying to install LILO to? My problem was I would always install it to the superblock (there was a warning that MBR might be unsafe) without realizing that grub was still in the MBR, so i finally installed LILO to the MBR and this solved my problems.
hopefully this helps
and good luck.

yeah, if you choose the option to install lilo to the mbr, it should overwrite a previous version of grub. I prefer grub over lilo, coz I run a few distros on my PC and with lilo, I have to run it everytime I update a kernel on the other partitions, whereas with grub I don't.
