Lilo.conf problem

I had a strange problem and I'm hoping someone can explain it to me. I was compiling the 2.6.0 kernel so I editted my /etc/lilo.conf file to save my old kernel as backup. I have Lilo installed on the MBR. When I rebooted, I didn't see the new options that I added to /etc/lilo.conf. After playing around I found that by going into the KDE "Boot" menu, which happened to see everything I had entered into that file, and clicking on "Apply", my Lilo was just like I wanted it.

What was keeping Lilo from reading my /etc/lilo.config file? Fortunately I was about to sort it out but I'd like to know what caused it.

I guess you didn't do "/sbin/lilo" after you modified "/etc/lilo.conf"; it is necessary.

After editing lilo.conf from a text exitor you have to run
