# yum install libXp

( The old EL 5.3 package was libXp-1.0.0-8.1.el5.<arch>.rpm )

There is no /usr/lib/libxp.so.6 , but /usr/lib/libXp.so.6 ,
i.e. the correct X in the file name is upper case.

? A typo in matlab ? , or is it a typo in post #1 ?

.
