Libre office writer has canceled the contents of a file without asking it
 

Hi!
I have a big problem: every data of a file .odt, saved on desktop, have been canceled by the program after my pc suddenly switched off, but I didn't want to. I had already saved everything, but now when I open the file it opens a window with "ASCII filter options" and then another window which says "document in use" (see link below)

Besides, in "properties" it says the size of the document is 0 byte!

Is there a way to recover the contents of my document?
(I have Linux Ubuntu 11.10)

Have you tried restarting LibreOffice? It has a document recovery function which, if it knows there is a lost document, will attempt to recover it on startup. I've had it succeed for me on occasion, though the most recent changes after the last autosave may not have been recovered.

If this was caused by a power failure of some sort, as you imply, you should prepare yourself for the possibility you will be out of luck.

Just open a copy of that file, as the dialog suggests and look if your content is still there. If so, save the file under a different name and remove the first one.
If not, have a look in LibreOffice's backup folder (the path can be found by looking under Tools->Options->LibreOffice->Paths) if at least a backup copy exists.
