libpng Installation Problems

I'm running Fedora 5, and I'm trying to install libpng-1.2.12. I untarred it, and ran ./configure which told me to copy a make file from the scripts folder. I found a make.linux file so I copied it over to the base file, and renamed it "make". I then ran ./make, but it only gave me a bunch of command not found errors.

There's another post from a few years ago that deals with this same subject, but the postings just ended without a solution. At least the solution that was given: make -f [filename] didn't work for me.

Any ideas?
Thank you as always for your help.

check your package manager in fedora and search for 'png'. it should be in there and easily to install. if not, search for 'fedora core 5 libpng' and youll find .rpm's to easily install.

good luck
