Hello,

I have been trying to install Redhat 6.0 or 7.0, doesn't matter, i have both and the problem exists no matter what. I install RH in text mode, because my video card won't support the gfx (old card). The machine is old, but it has had RH 6.0 on it before, and worked fine. the hardware that is in there now, is the same as it was when i had 6.0 on it before. The wierd thing is, i've tried to set it up now, and when i boot to linux i get "LI" instead of Lilo boot.

I have forced the Hard Drive to LBA, and reformatted it as such. It still does the same thing. I cannot boot to linux, although it gives me no errors when installing it. I thought this was a good question for all you Guru's here, as i'm all out of options of what it could be.

/me = n00b apparently.

thanks.

Perhaps one of these google hits will help.

If not, check the LILO, Linux Crash Rescue HOW-TO.

I've had this problem a few times also. The solution to this that I found was to boot off of a cd just to get things rolling. Get to a prompt and mount your /etc directory in /mnt. If you are using LILO, do "lilo -r /mnt/etc/lilo.conf", I think "-r" is the correct switch. Lilo for some reason doesn't seem to update the the superblock correctly after a fresh installation. If you were playing around in your BIOS you may want to pull the battery off the motherboard for a half hour and let it reset itself, just to make sure that you have all the default settings with the hard drive. OH!! I just thought of this, but if you made a boot disk during your installation, this would be a heck of alot easier than booting off of your cd's. Just pop the floppy disk in the drive and let it load, and when the system comes up, get to a terminal and just type "lilo" (You of course have to be root). Good luck man.
