LD_LIBRARY_PATH doesn't work...

I have a problem with a program I installed, called OOF2. It works fine, but everytime I log in again and want to use that program it complains about a certain library that it cannot find. After typing
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
I can open the program and work with it.
My question is: is there a more permanent way to let the program now that it has to look in usr/local/lib to find the library it needs, so I don't have to go over this everytime I want to use the program. I read in other posts that you have to change a certain file. But what file exactly and how do I change it?
Thanks already.

You didn't include the distro you are using, but you should have a /etc/ file on your system. If you do, you can add /usr/local/lib to that file and then run 'ldconfig' as root.

u can also append the following line in ur .bashrc or .cshrc
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
though this really a novice way of doing things

As sohny said you can better put this command at .bsahrc file under the home directory of the user.

if you want to implemetn all the users of this system then put this in /etc/profile

or create a seperate file under /etc/profile.d/ directory
