launching emacs-snapshot with the emacs command

I am using ubuntu 9.04 and just installed the emacs-snapshot package alongside my emacs package. Everything works fine but how can I make sure that when I issue the emacs command in the terminal, it launches the emacs-snapshot instead of the regular emacs?

Hello pamparana,

I don't use emacs, I use vi ( sort of, and please don't start a vi / emacs arguement )
This'll give you the idea:

tgar@vaio:~$ which vi
tgar@vaio:~$ ls -l /usr/bin/vi
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 20 2008-06-07 16:41 /usr/bin/vi -> /etc/alternatives/vi
tgar@vaio:~$ ls -l /etc/alternatives/vi
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 2009-01-27 09:42 /etc/alternatives/vi -> /usr/bin/vim.tiny
tgar@vaio:~$ ls -l /usr/bin/vim.tiny
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 593412 2009-01-08 02:26 /usr/bin/vim.tiny
tgar@vaio:~$ file /usr/bin/vim.tiny
/usr/bin/vim.tiny: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), for GNU/Linux 2.6.8, dynamically linked (uses shared libs), stripped
So you can see that when I execute vi file when all those links have been followed the real command is /usr/bin/vim.tiny file

So you need to make a symlink with the ln command:

ln -sT target linkname

I suggest you backup your emacs and emacs-snapshot before you start playing with ln but I'm sure you will get it to link as you like.
