Unhappy last try at my pppoe pcmcia card b4 i go back to m$

Hey,
I installed linux (Mandrake 9.1) on my Compaq Armada E500. I got everything working except the network card. I'm new to linux and need somebody to walk me through the process of configuring my card.

My ISP uses pppoe and I've downloaded access manager type stuff (start/statue/stop pppoe shell scripts and a few pppoe exes) from the isp but otherwise they don't provide any tech support for linux.

The link is:
ftp://download.sympatico.ca/hse/linux/

They do have a readme but I'm sad to say it's a bit over my head...

The deal is the network card is hooked up to an external ADSL modem which is then hooked into the wall...no router or anything and the IP/gateway are assigned by the server.

The card is a Xircom RealPort RBE-100 10-100 PCMCIA CardBus.
It says on sourceforge that the card is supported with the xircom_tulip_cb drivers.

Ifconfig eth0 shows:
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:10:A4:B6:13:EC
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:100
RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)
Interrupt:11 Base address:0x4400

Please help!!! This is driving me nuts, I'm so close yet so far
Thanks!

sorry i know there aren't really specific questions, because im totally fucking lost now. I mean I know others who use my isp and distro and got it working fine without downloading anything....I guess it's just my cheap crappy xircom card...but I know it should work, somebody almost got it working with me except they only knew how to set it up using dhcp so it obviously didn't work.......please help!! I've had no internet on the laptop for a month.
I'm formatting as soon as i find a copy of windows.

i use sympatico as well. i didn't get any software from the isp, though. I went out and got my own pppoe program. look at this thread.

your eth0 seems to be working, at least it matches what i have .

Good luck!

I'm not sure if that's gona do it or not, but regardless i can't even get that working. I dled rp-pppoe-3.5-1.src.rpm and typed in the first command as root (rpm --rebuild rp-pppoe-3.5-1.src.rpm) and it said no such file or directory. ....arg
