In my VM, I added a folder to the desktop on Unity. I can right-click on the folder and the right-click menu gave me a "resize" option. Clicking that outlined the folder with a rectangle with "handles" at each corner. I could resize the icon by grabbing a handle, but doing so affected only the selected icon.

If I tried to select multiple icons (CTRL-click), the resize option goes away.

I could not find a global setting for desktop icon size either by right-clicking the desktop or looking in the settings dialog.

Sorry I couldn't help more.

Talking

Thank you again Frank, I guess the fact that I did it that way, and it stayed good after reboot will have to be good enough.
It takes a little time to do it this way, but what else has a retired bloke to do anyway.
Again I thank everyone for their input to this question and mark it as answered.

Cheers all, hope I don't have to worry you too much in the future.

Kind regards,
Rod

Did you click on the desktop first so that it had the attention of the mouse pointer??

Hello Dave, yes I did that several times and in several different ways.
Left click
right click
crtl one of each, &etc.
The only time the scroll wheel works is if I read an item online and it's small print I am able to enlarge it that way.

Rod.

I'm glad that I was able to provide a workaround that worked for you.

I was thinking today that there must be some default icon size setting somewhere, but I don't know enough about Unity to start to look for it.

Thanks frankbell for your efforts. I will search for it after I get some of my other stuff sorted out.
