laptop startup

i am using a toshiba for which there are no docs on the web for installing linux on. i have installed linux and can go half way through the boot process when it says

initialising USB controller (echi-hcd): [ OK ]

once here it frezes and i can do nothing except turn off the power,

is there any way to stop the system loading that usb controller or another way of stopping it crashing

thanks

If its Redhat which it seems like, right before it starts loading the services, you should be able to press [ I ] to start in Interactive Mode, where you can choose what to load and what not to load, etc. Then get into your system to find out why USB isn't loading, and temporarily disable so you don't have to Press I each time when booting up.

thanks,

Almost there now. i have managed to fix the USB problem just by starting it up again without the external floppy in the usb. I now when i have finished starting up see a text mode login instead of gnome login. i login and type

startx and it says it finds a problem with my mouse

how can i get x to work

thanks

i got the mouse to work on x by checking what type of mouse the touchpad is on windows and it says that it is a ps/2 mouse so i reinstalled linux with the mouse as a generic ps/2 mouse instaead of generic usb.

i now have to sort out my video card which is nvidia geforce 4 20 go which is not supported by x.
