Laptop Monitor Not Working on Acer Aspire 5742Z on RHELS 5
 

I have an Acer Aspire 5742Z with an Intel HD Graphics card and if I connect an external monitor I have no troubles using RHELS 5, but nothing on my main laptop monitor. I am not sure how to correct this issue, any suggestions? Thanks.

I'm not sure what "RHELS 5" is (Red Hat Enterprise Linux? RHEL?), however have you attempted to do the following?

1) How did you install "RHELS 5"?
Was it while the laptop was connected to a aexternal monitor, or when it was stand-alone?

2) Have you checked the dual-head configuration for X?
At the command prompt, type "system-config-display", then go for the "dual-head" display tab.

If you are using Red Hat Enterprise Linux, you have the tech support of Red Hat. Contact them about this problem.

If you don't have access to RH tech support, some more details would be helpful. What do you mean by the laptop screen doesn't work? It doesn't turn on? It turns on but is completely blank? Also, which release in the RHEL 5.x series are you using? I believe they are up to 5.6 now.

Does the problem repeat itself on an earlier release of RHEL?
