Laptop modem

I have slax installed on my laptop, and i'm trying to use a dialup connection, but the /dev/modem wasn't there and the /dev/ttyS keeped on saying "modem is busy".
I have looked around the internet and a page said to link ttyS using setserial and link it to dev/modem.
It said to get the i/o address from /proc/pci, but I don't have that file and havn't had much luck find a file with it.

1)Would someone beable to tell me were the file is located that would hold that info.
2) Is there anonther way to do the same thing.

Thanks

try (as root)
lspci -v or lspic -vv
keep in mind your laptop's modem is more then likely a soft modem or 'winmodem'
that is to say alot of the critical hardware is not present and is emulated by the software, which is usually proprietary and windows only
if you have a winmodem you may or may not be out of luck
you can find more information about winmodems and linux here
