Hi all .. I am installing Ubuntu 8.10 on my HP Laptop & I cant change my lid brightness & the Intel Video Card is configured successfully so its not a driver missing .. so any one have any ideas how to be able to change the Lid brightness because its always too low without the charger .. Thanks.

Hi,

first check BIOS settings. My thinkpads provides in BIOS settings for brightness in case of with or without AC power. Otherwise this is an ACPI case. There are a lot of notebooks having non ACPI compliant DSTN table, which means Linux kernel won't be able to provide all ACPI functions available.

Did you take a look at Linuxlaptop or Tuxmobile? There you can find additional information for various types of notebooks on Linux.

I think its not the BIOS cuz am having two operating systems on the laptop & the other 1 is working gr8 wz the brightness .. so its with linux .. so it means that the Ubuntu wont support this option on the laptop or what?
