Laptop HDD Location
Hey,
I am trying to access my NTFS files on a mates laptop. However, i have no idea where the device is located. /dev/hda1 - /dev/hda8 Says device cant be found Same goes for b,c and d Is there a different device location for laptops? |
Would you describe what are trying to do! It's quite unclear those thing you wrote. Are you trying SSH, remote? Or local files on NTFS partition? Details, mate...

Ahh my appologises mate.
A local laptop using Local NTFS Basic Partitions. Ubuntu 5.04 |
Not real sure, but just a thought, could the laptop possibly be using SATA for the hard drive connection?
If that is the case, I think that the drive might be /dev/sda (like I said, I'm not sure). Can you check the fstab file to see what the system is calling the partition that / is mounted to? Also, the command 'fdisk -l' should list the partitions on the physical disk. Might give that a try. |
Volvogga could be correct here about serial disk.
Also seee your booting messages #dmesg And call the partition table with #cfdisk |
rue fdisk -l is the best way to learn the available drive configs on the laptop. Id venture to guess that the lappy is IDE and if it has windoes installed its most likley /dev/hda1
