Laptop external monitor video problem

My Linux is starting to act like windows, getting a little anoyed. Here is what happend: I hooked up a second computer monitor to my laptop It worked fine, I was whatching movies on my second monitor. But then I restarted and no all video played on my laptop is only black on the second monitor. Please help as soon as possible, this is driving me crazy. Will continue trying different setting in xine but I don't think it will do any good.

This is how I fixed it: turned off the second monitor, and disconnected it from the laptop. Restarted the machine, started xine, reconnected the monitor and turned it on. Realy reminds me of a windows fix. So far it is the first thing about linux (more likely xfree) that I have no idea how to fix, haven't found anything on google either.

I couldn't realy enjoy my 100" monitor (projector actually) after having compared Linux to win, so here is my formal apology. I am soooo very sorry, don't know what come over me. I'll make up for it by killing Bill Gates if I can get close to him :D ****bad joke, sorry for that to****.......

You have to tell in the XF86Config file explicitly wich one is which, else he has a problem at booting to recongnise the primary and slave monitor. But obviously you are still a windows user. Now for you: You are running linux, you must not restart your system ever again. Though why you have switched it off?

Cheers Lars
