Unhappy Laptom with 16mb ram

I have an old toshiba with 2 gig hd and 16mb ram. I am trying to install Vector Linux, but I keep getting an error "unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 90570dc0.

Any suggestions?

Choose a distro with very simple installation program (Debian or Slackware). Is it Pentium-class or 486-class machine?

Thanks I tried slackware. I partitioned the hd with partition magic, but when the software try's to copy the software to the hd it encounters an error.

Is there any known problems with disk controllers? I'm thinking of trying the version that runs on fat 32. Btw it is a pentium 166

thanks again.
