LAMP Distro for a 1995 Thinkpad?
Hi there, feel free to move this to a more "applicable" place, but as a fairly linux n00b, I thought I'd put it here.
I recently aquired a 1995 thinkpad, and have plans to get a LAMP setup on it as something to toy with. Linux Apache MySQL Php Now the specs are as follows... 486DX/2 16mb Ram 3gig HDD Colour screen (does win**** 95 at 600x480) Floppy drive only Serial + Parallel ports I have tried getting Damn Small Linux on, but seems to have issues with regards to X. it will boot all the way up to there then just go wibble. I will admit, I am a biff on linux, and apologies if my questions insult some of the knowledge on here. Can anyone recommend a distro that might go onto them specs and can be used as a LAMP setup? Cheers one and all Mono |
Welcome to LQ!
16Mb of RAM and a 3Gb disk? If I were in your shoes, I'd be forgetting about running X. If you do manage to get X running, it is going to be painfully slow, even with a lightweight environment. Damn Small Linux isn't a bad idea at all, but you'll probably need to run in console mode. A light install of Slackware would probably live on that as well. |
