Kubuntu LiveCD force graphics

i am trying to boot the Kubuntu Gutsy Desktop CD, but X refuses to start, or at least, if it does i can't see anything. I'm wondering if there is a way to force radeon drivers at boot.

it's the amd64 vers of the disc, with a radeon x1600. Force safe graphics doesn't work either. i have had the same issue runnin the fedora core liveCD. any help would be great.

amd64 32bit or 64bit(yes despite the name it comes in both architectures)? find that out then ensure that you are downloading the correct version of the iso.
you say x refuses to start. do you get a shell prompt? have you tried running "startx?" at the prompt?

x64, definately.

after the screen blanks (when X should be starting), can change to a shell (alt+F1), login and startx tells me that it cant connect to the window server, it is already running on display 0. if it isnt delete blah blah blah..
