Kubuntu 10.04: Mouse and Keyboard not working at log in screen

I am a newbie, using Kubuntu 10.04. When my computer was being updated sudden power failure forced my system to reboot and in the log in screen I can find that my keyboard and mouse is not working at all. I cannot enter into my system. I tried to enter ctrl+F1 but failed.

Presently I have inserted the system from the cd and ran the system and asking help from you. Please help me.

First thing I would advise is to try to boot a live CD, and get away form what is on your drive. Find out if the keyboard is still working. Power outages can do some strange things.

If you do not have a live CD to boot ( your Kubuntu install CD will do ) try the keyboard on another system.

To boot from the CD, if you do not have the CD set ahead of the HD, you will have to change that first. If you can, you will know at least some of the keys still work.
