kppp terminal window does not come up

Hello,
I am using Mandrake 8.1 and kppp to connect to the internet. However, kppp is not working. My modem works fine, and I connect ok.. but a terminal window does not pop up where I can enter my password and Id. I cannot find any option to "pop up terminal window on connect" or anything like that. i see that it is possible to create a chat script to supply information but this seems more complicated.. is this the way it is usually done?
any help is appreciated.. Thank you .

when you start up kppp you are prompted for your username and password (before you dial in).

Does your internet connection function? As in does it connect, or do you get disconnected / does pppd return an error, is there an actual error message?

if you get a pppd error then because authorization could not take place, check the pppd options in the kppp setup, and add the noauth setting. You will need to be root to use kppp. If you recon that's the problem, let me know here and we'll help you (further).
