Question kppp problem redhat 9


When i connect to internet using kppp it show the eroor like this

Feb 26 14:30:25 localhost pppd[1369]: pppd 2.4.1 started by root, uid 0
Feb 26 14:30:25 localhost pppd[1369]: Couldn't set tty to PPP discipline: Invalid argument
Feb 26 14:30:25 localhost pppd[1369]: Exit.


I compiled the kernel for this(which option should i give for this) and my modem is pctel

plz help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PCtel? Internal of external modem? Do you know if it is a "WinModem"?

Hello Anoopp,

To help you we need more details, which Kernel release do you use, did you installed any additional drivers for this type modem.

Can you use your modem with other programs?

And yes the PCTel chipset on mainboards, add-in or PCI cards are mostly software modems, which are developed for Windows. Some of this software modems work pretty good with Linux, but most will stay death.

my kernel version is 2.4.20-8 and modem is pctel internel modem.i downloaded the driver for this and compiled the kernel
I dont know whether it is the kernel problems(modules missing or like tht????)
