Kopete Crashes in MDK 10.0

Hi everyone, I'm new here although I've been dabbling in Linux for awhile. Just discovered this site and really love it.

My problem is this: I just installed MDK 10.0 (final release, not CE) and started establishing the install. When I run Kopete and attempt to log onto AOL's Instant Messenger, Kopete crashes and the Konqueror crash manager steps in warning me of it. I ran Kopete from the terminal to get the error messages and got this output:

MNG error 1029: Chunk out of sequence; chunk TERM; subcode 0:0
KCrash: Application 'kopete' crashing...
I don't know what that means, and I can't seem to change settings to stop it from crashing. Also, went to the Kopete website and looked for a possible update or different version to use. All I could find was a 0.8.0 version (latest) for SUSE or source code. I can't compile, don't know enough about it yet to even attempt. Suggestions anyone?

you could install gaim
it works fine and can do what you want

compiling is (usually) pretty easy
unpack the files
open a terminal and cd to the dir
then type
then type
su to root then type
make install

(kopete seems fine in the community edition)

You already have Gaim on your Mandrake CDs. Go into your software manager and install it. Alternatively, open a terminal, su to root, then type "urpmi gaim" - no quotes - and hit enter.
