Well I will supose that you already downloaded the file so I will try to make it as easy as possible for you..
First uninstall the old kopete version from your pc ( I suppose you know how to do that)

suppose the downloaded file is on your desktop right click on it ->Actions->Extract here
After that open a console and type: su
enter the password when prompted.
Then drag the FOLDER with the kopete name that is found on your desktop now to the console a popup list will appear choose "cd"
Now type : ./configure
when this ends I will suppose without any errors
type : make
when this finishes
type : make install
to try it type :
kopete &

Firstly, thanks for you help.

In attention of your explanation I wanna reply and inquire:

I found 2 packages that have the word "kopete" ins its names, they are:

kdenetwork-kopete-3.2.3-15mdk
libkdenetwork2-kopete-3.2.3-15mdk

I'm not sure if I must to remove one, two or none of these. Tell me something, please.

It will be more easy for me if you admit that the kopete package is in the:

/home/ricardo/download directory. And what version of kopete I must download for KDE 3.2.3

I would like to ask to repeat the explanation using only line commands. I usually don't use graphic interface for other operations that to browse directory tree and delete or copy some files.

Thank you very much
