I have Ubuntu 14.04 with latest updates. i used to use Download helper, which worked OK. Since latest update I noticed Firefox browser homepage has changed. Since then Download helper has stopped working. I have since tried Uget and Kget, but they dont work either. For example numerous attempts have been made to download videos of around 50 Mb, but they only download less than 100kb. I considered reverting to the former Firefox browser (if possible), but dont know if this would work. Any advice would be appreciated, many thanks.

I'm not sure what the problem is here. I've just downloaded libreoffice (198mb) in firefox 57 by clicking the file. It downloaded perfectly in a little over a minute. I've never used a dl helper.
Personally I use UGet, nice and simple bit of software
To pick up the downloads I used FlashGot which is a browser addon
Sadly FlashGot has not been updated to be compatible with the latest Firefox though it will be in time (the author also produces noscript and is prioritising that)
in terminal. The -c is for continue when your isp drops your connection . I run into bad ISP service myself from time to time. The file/video will end up in /home/your user name. You can move it from there later on.
