KNOPPIX won't load

It load for a while and then says something about shutting down after session is over and then goes to a blank screen and keeps the CD spinning, but i don't see anything and after about half an hour or more, it comes back up and says KNOPPIX has halted and says to shut down. What should i do? is it my computer? or is it the choices i make? as you can tell, i'm definately a newbie.

Well with knoppix you just pop it into your cdrom (if you computer is cdrom bootable) or boot it with knoppix boot disk. It runs directly from your CD and so it doesnt really 'load'..so I dont know whats going on. What are u doing to load it?

Enil8 07-11-2003 10:15 PM

all i do is put the CD in the drive. it boots up sets a whole bunch of stuff up, but then it says "Will auto shut down when session ends..." and then it flashes to a blank screen.

maybe something with ur hardware, when it loads from the cd does it have any trouble with any of the hardware detection?? or maybe ur cd maybe stuffed/corrupt??

you can try and install it on your harddrive whihc might eliminate the problem your having but on the other hand it might not...
if u dont know how to install it onto your hdd post here and ill give you da steps...

how far does it get with the booting from the cd...?
do u even get near the GUI or text mode...?

Enil8 07-11-2003 11:01 PM

no, i believe it recognizes all of the hardware, and i think it goes to a blank screen when it's about to go into GUI or text mode

Enil8 07-11-2003 11:39 PM

yeah, it does get to text mode. it says "Starting X11..." then a few seconds later adds "Starting X11...roottty1" or whatever the root things says. then i can type stuff for about 1 second and then the screen goes blank.

Sounds like it is detecting your video card or monitor settings incorectly.... There is help files on the CD that you can browse from windozes... I beleave its F2 during boot, try changing your refresh rate.

how do i do that? when i get there, it says "boot:" and then i can type stuff, so what should i type?
