Knoppix stalls on boot -Solved
I would like help getting a Knoppix ver5.1.1 live CD to boot on my computer. Computer is a Gateway, PentiumII, 512 Ram, 2HD, Win. XP.
When I try to boot from the CD it displays this: Welcome to the KNOPPIX Live GNU/Linux on CD! Running Linux Kernel 2.6.19. Total Memory available: 514984kB, Memory free: 505436kB. Scanning for USB/Firewire devices ... Done Enabling DMA acceleration for: hda [Maxtor 90840D6] Enabling DMA acceleration for: hdb [WDC WD400BB-32CLBO] Enabling DMA acceleration for: hdc [FX32OS] Enabling DMA acceleration for: hdd [ATAPI CD-ROM] Looking for CD in: /dev/hdc _ and there it totally stops. I can get it to boot in failsafe mode but then the mouse won't work. Any help will be appriciated! |
i see this error in dell pc
why this? regards |
I get the same error on a Compaq V5201US laptop. V4.0.2 boots just fine, however.

Is this on a laptop - knoppix has issues on some laptops
The fact that failsafe works usually means you have a hardware problem (conflict) you can try: knoppix nodma as a boot option and see if this clears things up for you -- another thing, if you have another computer try the CD/DVD in there and see if knoppix can boot for you to eliminate a media issue |
Solved problem
High five! that did the trick and I was able to boot up and run, although slower than on our other computer.
PS. I like your quote about Vista, I found some pages about vista that are interesting to read here: www.aaxnet.com/editor/edit042.html www.aaxnet.com/editor/edit043.html#v13 Thanks again! |
Good deal -- if you could just change the title to add SOLVED to the beginning in case anyone else has this problem and searches the forums they can find it quickly ;-)
Enjoy Knoppix and Ubuntu ;-) |
