knoppix setup ip trouble and installing mech warrior

im totaly a newby and im wondering how to set up the ip in knoppix live cd see I have mandrake in my satas; im thinking it might be controlling the eth0 so my knoppix cant get to it since I have installed mandrake on my bios raid1 85 gig satas the mandrake version is 1.1 official if that helps at all. I tryed to auto find the eth0 and im getting error: (knoppix error installing dsl) /sorry I scanned 1 eth0 device and access concentrator of your provider did'nt respond./

Im thinking maybe unplug the satas since they have eth0 controller on them; I dunno. what do you think? I went to k, knoppix, network/internet, adsl/pppoe configuration.

see I found this: pppoe setup but I cant get to the install part yet.
thankyou so much for stearing me in the right direction

I have Westell Versalink Model 327w its verizon on all the time installed into another pc running from 2000 pro but actualy all the pcs generaly dont need anything but the dns and the ip since they are all getting the same share with a Sohoware Hub.

P.S. this has nothing to do with it but I have no idea how to install stuff I found the part to install aptget but I wanna use mech warrior 2 31st century combat enhanced s3 virge edition cd. see I have s3savage4 vid card so it should work but I pot the cd in and nothin happens after I already installed aptget

Ok, I'm new also, but I think i can help.

1) You don't need to unplug the satas - they are just hard drives and if you're booting to the knoppix live-cd then the mandrake on those satas isn't even starting. Basically, nothing in your mandrake setup will affect any knoppix-live cd sessions you do.

2) You need to configure your eth0 device, but not with PPPoE or DSL utiltities. If the verizon DSL modem is always on, and plugged into the hub (or connected to a computer that is plugged into the hub) then you need to set up the IP and DNS for the eth0 adapter. The DSL utilties set up your network card/system to dial using a DSL modem - if the modem is already on/connected and hooked to another PC you don't need to set it up again on this PC. Just set up the eth0 device (network card) wit IP and DNS.

It's been awhile since I've used the knoppix distro, so I don't really remember if there is a GUI LAN config utility in there. If there is, use that to set your IP and DNS and it should work; but I'm new, too, so you may have to wait for someone more knowledgeable if that doesn't work.

FYI i found it difficult to understand what you were trying to say because you didn't use any punctuation see and i couldn't tell where you started sentences stopped then started and i had to read it a few times to even know where it started and stopped.

;p -- in the future you might get more help if you wrote clearer sentences/paragraphs. :) Good luck!
