Knoppix - Poor Man's Install

I don't want to install Knoppix to Harddrive but like to boot from Hardrive and use it. I went thru the wiki of Knoppix for PoorMan's install. As per the instructions I copied the content of the ISO to a partition. Now I am able to boot Knoppix with existing GRUB2 on other partition. How do I save the settings?

Thanks in advance for your help.

You can try kanotiX.

You need to create another partition to do that or use a flash drive or another drive as the Knoppix files will be read-only. Read below from the knoppix.net site on PoorMans Install:

Quote:

In order to have full functionality, you will want to have a separate partition for your Knoppix program files. The reason is that Knoppix will force read-only status onto the partition containing the active program. So, if you try to save data into same partition as the Knoppix program you are currently running, you won't be able to do it.
Is this the link you were referring to?:

What if..........?
Try:
--Create a partition about the size of Knoppix CD;
-- image the CD unto that partition: 'dd if=/dev/sr0 of=/dev/partition'
--after knoppix is imaged unto its exclusive partition, BIOS-ically switch Off optic drive to avoid contention
--boot..... knoppix treated "as" an optic drive by the BIOS;
--Assumed, it is running by RAM, 'mount another partition with a set of important root folders (/home, /var, /tmp etc.)
--mount --bind those folders; proceed to work with data;
--shutdown: data remains at the bound 'read/write' partition folders.

Do you think it will work? That is silly though for the same mechanism can be handled while running knoppix at CD drive. Yet, this manner you attain two things: Knoppix is ran from HD, and it runs faster now.

Well, try.

Good luck OP.

In the german forums ..
http://www.linuxforen.de/forums/showthread.php?t=269645
-> Knoppix Menü => Konfiguration => KNOPPIX Konfiguration speichern.
= knoppix menu -> configuration -> save knoppix configuration
(I never tried it)
or same here http://www.bralug.de/wiki/Persönlich...atte_speichern (copy paste the text and put it into a translator)
That answer seems widely available in the net.
Good luck.
And post your result (success?).
