When starting Knoppix 5.1.1 livecd on my new sony vaio i get a bunch of errors, but when starting on any other computer it works perfectly fine.
I can manage without using it on that computer, but if anyone knows what i could do so i could use my own computer with this cd i would be very appreciative.
It's clearly a hardware issue. I guess the "bunch of errors" are telling you what the problem is. For anyone to be able to help you, you'll need to post the errors and/or what your hardware is: "new sony vaio" doesn't tell us much.
Failsafe is a good first choice to see if it might have a chance to boot.
Knoppix was the KING of live cd's and may have single handed forced other distro's to follow suite. Unfortunately he didn't have a 50 person team helping him update for every system and future system. Even the 6 version may not be what you want. There really is no updated version like 5.1 available in any disto.

At the initial boot prompt, type: 'knoppix nodma' without the single quotes. If that fails, try booting again with 'knoppix nomce nodma acpi=off noapic /dev/sr0="ide-scsi"' with the double quotes, but without the single quotes. Then, if you succeed, and you have the inclination, you may remove one parameter at a time, until you find the one(s) that is(are) needed for boot to work, and just use those. I've never found a machine I couldn't boot Knoppix with, unless it didn't have a bootable CD drive.
