Knoppix hangs on boot up

Dell Optiplex GX620 Ultra Slim
Keyboard: DEll USB Model RT7D50

When I try to load Knoppix on the above system, it hangs at the following line:

INIT : version 2.78 knoppix booting

I have tried booting from option 7&8 which are the failsafe options and it appears to work, but the keyboard does not work and I dont seem to be able to load the hard disk once inside. Any advice on how to troubleshoot this much much appreciated.

Are you trying to boot Knoppix from cd or from hard drive installation?

If from cd, did you compare the md5sum of the knoppix .iso with the md5sum from the website from which you downloaded knoppix. It could be a corrupt .iso or a bad burn to cd that's causing the problem.

Failsafe mode doesn't start many services, and doesn't do much hardware detection. Download a copy of knoppix cheat codes to see what boot options you can give to skip or apply some option on boot. Laptops often need some special option to boot properly. is your friend. You can try googling for information relative to getting your laptop to boot with knoppix.

I agree with bigrigdriver that the md5sum should have been checked both before and after the burn of the image.

I would check the md5sum. If you downloaded the cd/dvd iso then be sure to check the md5sum for the original iso. From the cli;

~#cd /downloadisolocation      #cdromiso.iso cdromiso.md5

~#md5sum -c cdromiso.md5       #substitute the correct name to check
If the iso md5 is ok then you should try 'CdromMd5sumsAfterBurning''.

This way you will know if the burn was OK!

You could try the;
at boot: knoppix testcd
It could be possible to test the cd from knoppix.
