knoppix hangs

i m trying to save some data from my friends computer by using a knoppix live cd (3.7)

When i boot with the 2.4 kernel he doesn't recognize my usb key
if i boot with the 2.6 kernel my usb key works fine, but when i browse then through the folders to the files i want to copie knoppix totally freezes...

i searched this forums and google but i couldn't find a good solution, does someone of you has maybe something?

Maybe try an other use USB driver in kernel 2.6. this worked with my mp3 player.
Do "rmmod usb-storage" and then "modprobe ub", which loads the "slow usb driver", which maybe works better....

maybe try "knoppix desktop=fluxbox" or whatever it is in the boot loader
I also find that some boots of knoppix work much better than others, sometimes it seems to miss things

mmmm, strange, i think it is a hardware conflict somewere, because he has the same with playing music and deleting some videofragments in a standard boot.

is this possible? if is there a way to figure out which one causes the conflict? and were do i report this then?

in the meantime seems the problems almost solved here, just copied al the important files to second partition, so that would normally be kept if we reinstal winxp?
