I have a old laptop toshiba satellite 2100cds 96m memory 6.1 gb h/d running win2k pro,I just use it for browsing the net when my desktops downloading stuff.

I started reading about Linux and wanted to try it,So i got myself a copy of knoppix,If i start my laptop without the pci card in"D-link dfe-670txd" Knoppix loads and runs fine,well i say fine i had to google to find out to type knoppix screen 800x600 to get it to load so mt tiny screen looked ok.

Any way back to my problem.

knoppix starts loading then i get.
PCMCIA found,starting cardmgr

at this point everything freezes and i have to restart the machine.

I'm an absolute newbie but would love to be able to start my long journey of discovery with linux,But i need the net to be able to google or i'll be living in here.

Hope this is posted in the right forum and hope it makes sence and someone might be able to help.

Knoppix may not support that PCMCIA card,...

You might try downloading another single Disk Distro, like SuSE's trial, or Gnoppix (the Gnome variant of Knoppix). There are several. Look for one that is compatible with your laptop's peripherals.

Hi Thanks for your reply,But i've googled and found that both my PCMCIA card and the laptop Toshiba satellite 2100cds are supported for knoppix.
