Knoppix bootable cd

Okay this is my first intro to Linux. Bought my PC mag which had a bootable Knoppix cd. Very impressed with it so far. Can I partition my hd and install this cd for dual boot? Pai having to go into Bios etc, would like to log off windows and into linux. Simple instructions please, never done it before.
Also , it showed up all my files etc, I have some borland based programs which will run, right? How do I associate them to try them out?
I have a HP 3820 printer that it didnt recognise, do I have to download a special driver for it?
Sorry about all the questions.

For HD install see:

(keeping the antipodean flavour of the thread).

Borland-based programs? Don't understand.

Printer installation: I found the KDE Control Centre did a wonderful job of installing printers and finding the right drivers.

See also the excellent http://www.knoppix.net. Note there is new version of the CD (3.3) just out.

Borland/Delphi based progs are supposed to run on anything, correct? My question is can linux recognise an exe program and what do you associate it with when the box comes up asking you how you want to associate it?

Yes and No. You can port the source code (kylix3 - delphi 6, C++ Builder 6 or is it 7?) and recompile but linux can not directly run a windows executable. You can try the application using wine.

Features like APIs COM, ActiveX, OLE, BDE and ADO are not portable to linux.
