Knoppix 3.7 Again

1) I am currently playing with Knoppix 3.7 as a boot from CD system, but waiting for anything to happen is a lot like watching grass grow. Machine is a K6-2/500, 100 mHz FSB, 128 megs of RAM(I know, need more RAM).
Will a HDD install speed this process up significantly?

2) I am gun-shy about attempting a dual boot set-up, as the last time I tried that with Mandrake 10.1, it wasn't dual boot as planned, and wiped out my HDD, OR did I just not understand the process. I expected a menu to come up at boot-up to ask me which one I wanted to run.

Thanks

No, I am incorrect about the slackware download, it is over 600 MB.

That AMD K6-2 is just plain slooooooww period. They weren't much. They were inexpensive though. I've tried to run Linux with a GUI on one before and it was hopeless. I ran win98 on it also and it was a snail with it also. I have a Celeron 400 that is a much faster machine than that K6-2. I would recommend that K6-2 as CLI only. That's a good analogy, like watching grass grow.

Thanks Teckk. The K6-2 wasn't too bad when I had Mandrake installed, I just didn't like Mandrake. Knoppix kinda suits me for what I want to do, but working from the CD ROM drive is frustrating. I will have to try to work around that problem, because out of 4 machines, on the network, I don't have a single Intel processor, and probably won't. This machine is a Athlon XP 2600 Barton(512) with 1.5 Gig of RAM on a A7N8X-X, but I don't want anything else on this machine. It's in the house in my office, and the Linux machine will live out in the shop. It's primary purpose will be for a specific Amateur Radio application(Linrad). I will have to dual boot(yuck!) initially, and eventually I will have a dedicated machine for Linux.
