Unhappy Knoppix 3.4 doesn't boot with old moniter...

Hi all,
I've installed Knoppix 3.4 and Win Xp on my machine. It worked well with my previous moniter (Samsung). I changed my moniter (an old moniter -Phillips).

Now my Knoppix installation doesen't boot to X(moniter goes blank when starting X11). I think the refresh rate doesn't match with this moniter.

Could anyone tell me how to change the refresh rate.

thanks,

cya

try changing the boot settings from lilo/grub or whatever you use. one thing you could try is
Code:
runlevel = 3
which should start you in text only mode. then edit your XF86Config file. Mine is in /etc/X11/ Search around on how to edit that file. be careful or you could ruin your monitor. I dont know too much about knoppix. Your probably going to need the specs for your new monitor. You may be able to get these from windows or from samsung(website or papers that came with the monitor).

Easiest IMHO would be to boot the knoppix CD using a cheatcode like vsync=60 and copy over the /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file to your hdinstall after making a backup of the original.

EDIT: 60 Hz is quite low and is required for really old monitors only so first you might try booting knoppix without any specific monitor cheatcodes to see if it gets DDC probed correctly.

Talking thanks...

I used the following cheat code...

>> knoppix vsync=60 hsync=37.8

[ this setting is for the PHILIPS 104B 14'' moniter]

Now my Knoppix is working well

Thanks for you all.

cya
