Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

Tring to use Knoppix to swap some files from one drive to another (hdb1 to sda1) When i goto copy and past from either drive to the other in KDE it says it cant create the directory, I believe its because of permissions. because i can create files to the desktop with no problem. I know there is a root console but how can i run KDE as root to move the files around? or am i stuck using the console?
Thanks in advance
Rich P
Usually live cds mount hard drive only with read only permission. If u r trying to write to ntfs partition, it may corrupt the data in it as linux don't support ntfs partition. If u really want to write to ntfs partition or a linux partition go to desktop and right click hard drive icon and uncheck Read only option. To find this option just view all the tabs in the property dialog box like thing. If u think that this reply wrong pardon me. I read it in a website. thanks and good luck
